Cigar Steward Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cigar Steward?

CigarSteward is a site for cigar lovers that helps add a bit to the joy of smoking a good cigar. Among other things community members can keep track of their cigars, store their ratings and tasting notes, explore to learn about new cigars, and swap cigars with other members of the community. The site is constantly evolving and improving, as the most popular suggestions from the community will be incorporated in new features and changes in the design.

What is a beta test?

A beta test is public trial of a web site. The site is still in development, and there often are “bugs” (e.g., parts of the site that don’t work as intended”) and other issues. The developers rely on the community of testers to help identify open issues and areas of concern.

Why is the Cigar Steward Beta Test only available to certain people?

We want to ensure a great experience for all members of our community. So we need to limit the number of people who use the site initially, because we need to make sure that all of our back-end services work as intended with an increased load. As we validate that all of the technical pieces are working as intended, members of the community will have the opportunity to invite friends and family to participate in the beta test. And once we are sure that all of the technology is solid, we will exit the beta test phase so that anyone can use Cigar Steward.

How do I invite friends to be members of Cigar Steward?

Periodically, while we are still in beta test, you will have the ability to send a limited number of invitations to friends and family. You will find this under “Invite a Friend” in the “My Cigar Steward” tab.

Is Cigar Steward only for serious cigar smokers?

While we hope that they most avid cigar enthusiasts will get value from Cigar Steward, we designed it with the intention that anyone can get value from it.

Do I need to register to use Cigar Steward?

If you don’t register you can use some of the features in the explore tab and forum, but you won’t be able to use many features including tracking your collection, storing notes or ratings, getting suggestions, or swapping cigars.

What is “My Humidor”?

“My Humidor” is where you can keep track of your cigars. You can rate them on a scale of one to 100, and write tasting notes as well.

Why should I rate a cigar and write a tasting note?

There are two reasons to take advantage of ratings and notes.First, when you provide a rating or a note, the entire community can see that information as they search on cigars. As community members look across multiple notes and average reviews, it helps them get a sense for whether or not they might be interested in trying that cigar. Second, the more cigars that you rate, the more accurate the recommendations from Cigar Steward Suggests will be.

What is Cigar Steward Suggests?

Cigar Steward Suggests is a feature that will be launched soon.It uses similar technology to that used by popular internet retailers to predict cigars that you might like based on what you like.So the more cigars you rate, the more accurate your suggestions will be.

What is a Wish List?

The wish list is where you can keep track of new cigars that you are interested in trying. And if you sign-up for cigar swapping, you can trade cigars with other members of the community.Cigar Steward will automatically find matches of folks who want to swap cigars that are on your wish list, and who also are wishing for cigars that you want to trade.

What is a Cigar Swap?

A swap is a fun way to get exposed to new cigars. More experienced community members can think of it as an automated variation on the “cigar pass”. Folks highlight the cigars they are open to trading in their virtual humidor in “My Cigar Steward”. Then they can check out new cigars in the Explore section of Cigar Steward, and put the ones they are interested in trying on their Cigar Steward wish list. Cigar Steward will find possible swaps that match both ends of the trade – highlighting if there is someone who is both wishing for what you are trading, and trading what you are wishing for. If you are interested in making that swap, you can propose it.Once the other person accepts your proposal, you both will receive an introductory email with each other’s email address. You are responsible in taking it from there to complete the trade.
